Engenius News : Long Range Cordless Deserves Gold Star for School Safety According the California's Legislative Analyst's Office (www.lao.ca.gov), the state will spend $139.6 million on school safety programs in the 2002-2003 school year, with over $82 million of that fund tagged as grant money to improve the safety of individual schools and districts. Among growing concerns over school safety, districts across the country are being forced to follow suit. For many, this means rewiring hundreds of old school buildings, which is prohibitively expensive. For others, they have to resort to using just 2-way radios and crossing their fingers. The EnGenius Industrial Cordless phone system offers a budget-friendly, flexible solution for schools seeking both telephone and 2-way radio access inside, outside, and even off-campus. With range up to 12 floors of in-building penetration and the ability to go outside, teachers and staff can carry a handset wherever they go on campus for both phone access and a built-in 2-way radio. And because the 2-way radio is independent of the base, they can take handsets off-campus and still be in contact with each other. Teachers Instead of running wires to every classroom, teachers who don't need a dedicated extension can be set up in workgroup configuration so they have access to a phone line if they need it as well as 2-way radio between handsets. Plus, they can travel around the building and outdoors and still be in touch.
For administrators who require a dedicated extension, bases can be set
up in a 1 base to 1 handset ratio off of analog ports behind a PBX. By
establishing a hunt group or forwarding calls when they are not in the
office, they can receive calls that come into their regular line wherever
they are. Workgroups can also be set up for maintenance, AV, IT, and security staff who travel around the building or for library, cafeteria, and office staff who need to be in touch without being at their desks. Outdoor Applications With the external antenna, in-building staff can also travel outdoors, so football coaches and teachers on playground duty carrying a handset can still make calls in case of an emergency and have 2-way radio access. Even Off-Campus or During a Power Outage Because the 2-way radio is independent of the base, teachers can take their handsets with them on field trips and still be able to communicate via the 2-way radio. And in the event of a power-outage, the private, full-duplex 2-way radio will still work as teachers calm and organize panicking students. Suggested Accessories: To go hands-free, the SN-920 handset needs a headset adapter which plugs into the bottom of the phone. The EP-436 line has a built-in headset port on the side. You can use any 2.5 mm headset with the Industrial Cordless handsets.
